APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED,

LONDON, Jan. 2,

The Daily Herald says that the successor to the late Sir Sefton Brancker, Director of Civil Aviation, who perished in the RlOl disaster, will be Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Shelmerdine, Director of Civil Aviation in India. Colonel Slielmerdine has unrivalled knowledge of the Empire’s airways.

Lieutenant-Colonel Shclmerdino has held his present post since 1927. Ho began his army career in the Green Howards in India thirty years ago, and was attached to the Royal Flying Corps in 1915.
