(From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Dec. 10.

'The Apiti Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting in the - Oddfellows’ Hall on Tuesday, Mrs Churchill presiding. Tho president, on behalf of those assembled, welcomed Miss Crawford, of the staff of Massey College, and voluntary organiser of this district of the Women’s Institutes. Miss Crawford replied, stating she was pleased with the membership and advancement, made by the newly formed branch here, fivo new members being welcomed at the meeting. Six other ladies have expressed their desire to join at tho next meeting, which will bo hold on tho usual Tuesday in January. It was decided to rent the hall for the coming twelve months. Miss Crawford then gave a useful and interesting demonstration of making cream cheese. The cheese, which she showed in various stages of manufacture, she fully explained to, the onlookers, finally making up numerous cartons of the finished article. The hostesses, Mesdames McKay, McMurtrie, senr., Millar and Miss Millar, handed round refreshing afternoon tea. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. The previous evening a number of the members attendod an instruction of folk dancing given by Miss Crawford, assisted by Mm Churchill. So enjoyable did this evening prove that it was decided to hold another on December 19, and if possible, Miss Crawford would again supervise. Should, however, Miss Crawford be unable to attend, Mrs Churchill consented to continue tho dancing instructions. Tho monthly meeting of the School Committee was held on Tuesday evening, Mr Stanley presiding: After the usual business, the headteacher handed in a statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the two concerts given by the Apiti Entertainers, here and at Kimbolton. The committee passed a hearty, vote of thanks to all those who assisted. It was decided to hold the annual school picnic early in the New Year, in some place where swimming could be indulged in. Mrs P. Murray, secreary for a number of years, intimated that she would bo leaving the district, and it was decided to hold another meeting before her departure. Members were pleased to hear that the Education Board had decided to allow additional capitation fees, as the school had gong up a grade, and • had been under a heavy handicap, with an attendance of between eighty and ninety for tho last few years. Tho school concert is to be held on December 12. . Shearing is now in full swing in this district. Farmers were grateful for tho fine weather all last week, and prospects of still more sunshine. Tennis enthusiasts too are out on the courts daily. Misses N. and L. Osborne, and little Ins are at present on holiday at Morrinsville.
