FIRE POLICE
QUESTION OF OFFICIAL BADGE. At Friday’s quarterly meeting of tho Palmerston North Eire Board tho question of supplying members of the recently formed Fire Corps with a distinctive fire badge was discussed. Mr W. L. Fitzherbert considered that the members should wear an arm badge indicative of their authority. Mr 0. Simpson (Wellington): Is it correct that members of the fire police are required to pay a fee of five shillings ? Superintendent Barnard: Such is a matter entirely for themselves. We do not make any charge, and they have the right to draw up their own conditions of membership. _ Mr A. J. Graham (chairman) : The superintendent has assured me that he is satisfied with tho calibre of the men. It is perhaps unfortunate that a greater number of business men did not join up. _ ' Appreciation of the action of the members of the fire police in offering their services was voiced and it was decided to refer the matter of the securing of badges to the executive committee, with power to act.
