GIANT LINER
CONSTRUCTION AT CLYDEBANK. QUESTION OF INSURANCE. CUNARD COMPANY’S STATEMENT (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless). Received September 22 11.50 a.m. RUGBY, Sept. 21. The Cunard Company have issued a statement declaring that they have no knowledge of any insurance difficulties having arisen with regard to the projected giant liner to be constructed for them by John Brown and Company, of Clydebank. The company say that they have not yet bogun to place any insurance on this new ship, that the terms of the contract have still to be settled with the builders, and that the dry docking arrangements at Southampton are still under amicable discussion. It is understood that the new liner, which will exceed in speed and size any other afloat, will probably require a special dry dock to be constructed or adapted for her. The insurance on such a huge vessel would naturally involve a great sum, but a few weeks ago an announcement was made that the Board of Trade would undertake at reasonable rates any proportion of the insurance of the vessel which could not bo accoommodated by the market in the ordinary manner.
