SEPTEMBER MEDAL,
The September Medal competition was played at Mokowliitu on Saturday afternoon, the best cards returned being as follow: —A. Herrold (14) 4 up; K. Glendinning (11) 2 up; A. H. SOUTHERN HAWKE’S BAY CHAMPION.
EKSTEDT’S VICTORY",
After defeating D. R. Pharazyn (Hastings) 4 up and 3 to play in the semi-final of the Southern Hawke’s Bay golf championship at Dannevirke, A. E. Ekstedt, the Palmerston North player, went on to take the final honours in a match against H. S. Hindmarsh (Napier) on Saturday, his victory being by the broad margin of G and 5. The first hole was halved in five (bogey), the second being won by Ekstedt also in bogey five, while the third was halved in five. The fourth was won by Ekstedt in bogey five, and the fifth by Ekstedt in four. The sixth was halved in six and the seventh in four, the eighth being wone by Ekstedt in bogey five. The ninth was halved in three. At the end of the nine holes going out, Ekstedt was seven up on his opponent. Coming home, Ekstedt won the next two holes in birdie four, while Hindmarsh won the 12th in bogey five. The match ended at the thirteen when Ekstedt won the liolo in birdie four, leaving him six up and five to play. Ekstedt takes the Holden Cup and a small replica of that trophy.
