RACEHORSES TRANSPORTED.
LONG JOURNEY BY MOTOR VAN. ' NAPIER TO AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph-Special to Standard.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 18. ' A long journey by road for racehorses .was completed last night, when two Napier trainees, R. Alexander, of Greenmeadows,:" anid L. Dixon, of. Taradale, arrived at, Auckland with a string of six horses, five, of which are'engaged at the Avondale meeting. Two large motor vans were used, the horses being accommodated in-one and the feed carried in the other. The journey is about 300 miles a.nd two days were occupied in making it. The vans left Napier at about 5 o’clock on Wednesday morning, and it was expected that Auckland would be reached the same night. However, mechanical trouble was experienced on the journey, considerable time being spent at Taupo in effecting repairs'to the engine of one van. Fair weather was met with on the way, and good progress was at first made. > At intervals the vans were stopped and the horses were taken out to grass. . The horses which made the journey were Chrysology, Commandant, Courtesy ' and Great Charter, fowned by Mr T. H. Lowry; .Gold Pit, owned by Mrs M. A. Perry, and Ecila, owned by Mr J. J. Carr. It is stated that the horses suffered no serious effects as a result of their long journey.
