CYCLE ROAD RACING.

AMATEURS IN ACTION. EVENT WON BY N. DIXON. A twenty-four mile road race was conducted by the Manawatu Amateur Athletic and Cycling .Club tins afternoon, when eleven of the local riders turned out for the event. Included among the starters were two new riders, J. Kelleher and J. Belli, who both acquitted themselves well, Belle gaining a place. The winner was N. Dixon, who raced well in spite of a period of inactivity of late. His was a very popular win, the final sprint affording him an excellent opportunity of displaying lus capabilities. E. Lawrence again registered fastest time 'which was another meritorious performance, as Lawrence was riding a strange machine, his own being put out of commission prior to the start through the front tyre coming adnit from the rim. ' To-day’s course was once round the Feilding block. Tho outward journey was made through Milson, Te Arakura and Aorangi and the return via Awahuri and Rangitikei Line. in© conditions were favourable for good performances, the going being excellent. There was also very little wind. Lawrence, who started from virtual scratch (2jmin.) caught Christian a little way down Milson Line and Casey and Hayes at the Feilding Post Office. He passed Hopewell and Hawkes at Awahuri on the return journey, luve riders all finished in a bunchy they being Dixon, Rogers, Belk, Anaerson and Kelleher. Dixon beat Rogers for first place by half a wheel, while there was about half a length between Rogers and Belk in the sprint for second place, Rogers being successful. Lawrence finished sixth shortly atteiwards to he followed by Casey a minute or so later. The finish was one of the most interesting witnessed this season, all the five riders mentioned showing evidence of strict training and judgment. The times registered were also indicative of the _ interest that the riders have been lending to the sport this season.
