SCENIC DISCOVERY.

CAVES NEAR HAMILTON. MANY BEAUTIFUL FORMATIONS. (By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 16. A find of very considerable importance to Hamilton residents, and one that has not been appreciated at its true worth, was made when the Karamu caves were discovered, and it is surprising that their charms have not been made more widely known. The caves form a scenic attraction of surprising beauty. They are situated within 20 mites of Hamilton and are reached by an excellent road. Access to the caves is made by a doorway which gives easy admission. The visitor passes down a declivity and turns to the left where the first of the natural wonders to meet the eye here and there are many glorious limestone formations. Stalactites, some as delicate as the finest crystal and others as sturdy as the pillars of a church, drop in curtain formation from a dome. Proceeding onward, the visitor enters an immense chamber resembling the interior of a cathedral with its great organ of pure white limestone, its domed roof and, most marvellous of all, its wonderful acoustic properties. There are tiny fairy grottos, each one abounding in fantastic and delicate formations and glittering with dewy crystals vieing with each other in drawing the visitor’s admiration.
