WAGE REDUCTION.
SYDNEY COUNCIL EMPLOYEES. SYDNEY, Aug. 14. At a special meeting of the Sydney Citv Council, a resolution by the Reform Party to bring the ouncil employees under the Public service Reduction Act was approved of. This means that a cut of 8 1-3 per cent, will be made in their wages. Labour members hotly condemned the reduction. Alderman Garden exclaimed: “These paupers will awake and starving people will cry out: ‘Wo want food.’ it’s coming. You all know it.”
At the same meeting, Reform Aldermen agreed to the recommendation of the Electricity Committee to increase the salary of Mr Forbes Mackay, manager of the city electricity department, from £2OOO to £3OOO a year.
