SERIOUS CHARGES.
THREE MEN REMANDED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 14. On what were described by DetectiveSergeant Holmes as being very serious charges, James Martin, a motor driver, aged 26, William Alexander Matthews, a taxi-driver, aged 28, and Harry Boyer, a tentmalcer, were remanded to appear next Wednesday by Mr Page, S.M. The charges were robbery with violence. Bail was opposed, the detective saying he objected as one of the men who was robbed was lying in hospital with serious injuries. “The charge is a serious one and there is little known about the men,” he said, “and they could easily get away.” Mr Page said he would refuse bail at the present time but would review the matter when he knew of the condition of the man in hospital.
