EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.

MANAWATU BRANCH. At a meeting of the local branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute held on Wednesday afternoon the discussion centred idund the recess committee’s report on education in New Zealand. In opening the discussion Mr Swinbourn reported that the- sub-committee appointed had discussed the report and recommended it for the favourable consideration of the branch. He read a report on the proposed junior high school system which had been prepared by Mr Moore and this was adopted by the members. Mr Pryor, as a member of the subcommittee, gave a resume of the recommendations as a whole and expressed the opinion that the general principles and reforms advocated, whilst representing almost a revaluation in the educational system, were excellent and should be heartily endorsed. by the institute. ’ They repre-' seated a great advance on tho present system which had grown in a haphazard fashion and had reached a most unwieldy state —unsatisfactory to pupils, parents and teachers. Many of the reforms outlined in the report had been advocated by the institute for many years and it behoved, the members to support it in every wav possible. After considerable discussion, during which general approval of the report was expressed, it was left in the hands of the sub-committee to do all they can to assist the central executive in its support of the proposals outlined.
