DRIVER FOR SENTENCE.
SEQUEL TO ACCIDENT. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Aug. 13. Run to earth by a motorist after a chase of ten miles, on July 15, a lorrydriver named Peta Mua, or Peter Moore aged 33, of Tolaga Bay, appeared’ before Mr Harper, S.M., today on a charge of having negligently driven a lorry, thereby causing an injury to Noeline Kidd, aged nine. Accused was committed to tbe Supreme Court for sentence. The evidence showed that accused, who pleaded guilty, was driving a lorry with three Maori companions from Gisborne toward Tolaga Bay, and that he knocked the girl oft her bicycle near an intersection. The accused was travelling on the wrong side ot the road at a speed of over thirty miles an hour, according to the estimate of witnesses, and did not stop after the a °A* l motorist, Leslie A Potts, who saw the accident, gave chase and overtook the accused about 12 miles from Gisborne. Mi’ Potts took the names .of the accused and his companions, and inspected the lorry, noting certain damage before allowing it to proceed. Detective McLeod stated that accused strenuously denied, knowledge of any accident when inerviewed three days e irl suffered a fractured jaw and arm and severe bruises, and, according to medical evidence, there is a likelihood of permanent disability.
