(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Aug. 9. At a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court on Friday, Francis Gibbons was charged with driving a motor car over a railway crossing when the line was not clear. He pleaded guilty by letter and was fined £5 and costs 10s. Mary. Dowsett. was charged with attempting to drive a horse and dray across the railway when a train was approaching. She also pleaded guilty by letter and was fined £2, costs 12s. Herbert Eatwell was charged that he did sell milk which did not comply with the. regulations. Defendant pleaded guilty and admitted the presence of water, but in mitigation counsel said there was an absence of desire to gain as the milk was supplied on a but-ter-fat test. Constable Satherley said the sample contained 7 per cent of added water. —Fined £5, costs 12s. W. H. Potts and Percy Howell were similarly charged. Mr Clare, who appeared for defendants, stated that lio did not deny water was in the milk; milking was done by machines, which were washed out with water before and after milking, and it was maintained that water got in the milk this way. Each defendant was fined £5, costs 22s 6d. S. Elliott was fined 10s, costs 12s, for allowing a cow to wander. R. Ryder was fined £l, costs 12s, for allowing five cows to wander. John H. Metzenthin (Mr Shortland) was charged with driving a motor lorry over the intersection of the main county road in a negligent manner. Convicted and fined £5, also ordered to pay costs, £5 Is lOd. Hector Kirk was charged with driving a car at an excessive speed, and Morris Nicholls was similarly charged. Mr Dunkley appeared for defendants. The S.M. said there was a certain amount of doubt in the oases and he would therefore dismiss them. A Fear (Mr Atmore) was charged with selling liquor at a time when his hotel should have been closed. George Steward (barman) was charged with supplying the liquor, and \V. Marine, V. Morgan, T. Bevan, H. Faithe and E. Barnes were charged with being on licensed premises when such premises should have been closed. Steward was fined £lO, costs £1 16s; the charge against Fear was dismissed, while the other men concerned were each fined £1 and costs. While two Maoris were driving a car over the railway crossing at Otaki yesteiday they mistook the Rahui Road for the main road and in endeavouring to turn suddenly ran foul of a ditch and capsized. The car, owned by Mr Peter Hamiora, of Waitotara, was damaged but tho occupants were uninjured. Mrs Adnams leaves on Thursday for Tauranga. for a holiday and business trip. Mr and Mrs Herbert Ryder, Miss Molly Ryder, and Mr Les Bailey, all of Petone, were visitors to Otaki yesterday. The usual fortnightly meeting of the 1.0.0. F. Lodge was held on Friday evening, Bro. J. Irving, N.G., presding over a fanattendance. Correspondence was dealt with and one application for membership was received. Routine business of the Lodge having been finished the Lodge was closed, after which all present were favoured with a lecture by Bro. Dr. Milne. The previous lectures given by Bro. Milne . were thoruoghly enjoyed and this lecture was no exception, being fully appreciated. The Brethren expressed a wish that Bro. Milne would again favour them. Supper was provided, bringing an enjoyable evening to a close. A pretty wedding was solemnised at the Methodist Church, Te Horo, on Wednesday, August 6, when Evelyn, fifth daughter of Mr and Mrs T. H. Windley, “Wattle Grove,” Te Horo, was married to Leslie James, elder son of Mr and Mrs James Hunter, “Sunrise Farm,” Hennington, Invercargill. The ceremony was performed by Rev. H. Spencer, and Miss H. Muir presided at the organ. The church was tastefully decorated by friends of the bride with spring llowers and greenery, while abovo the bride hung a large white wedding bell with touches of pink. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, woro a dainty gown of white georgette and radium lace, with a hip-posy of orange blossom. The sleeves were worn long over the wrists, while the material fell in cascades over the hips. A dainty veil of silk embroidered net was worn with the customary orange blossom, and a pretty bouquet of winter roses, maidenhair and asparagus fern’ with touches of pink, and with tulle streamers, was carried. The bride’s sister, Mrs Fitzgerald, was matron of honour, and wore a frock of beige mariette with beige bat, and shoes to tone. The bridesmaid, Miss Hazel Windley, sister of tho bride, wore a frock of lettuce-green crepe-de-chine, green hat and shoes to tone. Both carried bouquets in shades to tone with their frocks. The bouquets which were greatly admired, were made by and were the gifts of Mrs R. Evans, Ohau. Little Valerie Fitzgerald, niece of the bride, in a frilled frock of heliotrope crepe-de-chine, made a dainty flower-girl. She wore a silver bandeau on her hair, silver shoes, and heliotrope socks and carried a posy of violets and maidenhair fern. Mr R. McDonald, of Mataura Island, was best man, and Mr Mulhane groomsman. After the ceremony, the guests,. 100 in number, were entertained at breakfast in the Te Horo hall, where the usual toasts were honoured. The bride’s mother received her guests in a frock of maroon satin crepe-de-chine, black silk coat and black bankok hat and carried a posy of violets. The bride travelled in an applegreen sillc-marocain frock, with touches of pink, a green face-cloth coat trimmed with fur, and small pink, close-fitting of bankok and shoes and stockings en suite. The happy couple, who were the recipients of numerous and beautiful presents, including several cheques, left later by car for Wanganui, where the honeymoon was to be spent. The future home of Mr and Mrs Hunter will be in Wyndham.
