RONGOTEA
TOWN BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent). RONGOTEA, May 20. The usual monthly meeting of the Rongotca Town Board was held in tho board room on Monday evening, when the following members were in attendance: Messrs L. H. Yarrall (chairman), Thos. Fraser, E. J. Arnott, S. J, Teat and K. A. Trenkner. The balance-sheet covering tho past year’s working was submitted to tho meeting by the clerk. The board has had a very successful year, although a few rates are still outstanding. A list of people who are eligible to vote for the members to constitute the new board was read, and the total amounted to ono hundred and five persons. Correspondence was read as follows: From Thos. Fraser, applying for a new slaughterhouse license. From the Kopane Lodge, Rongotea, applying to tho board lo ask tho Boxing Club to refrain from placing resin upon tho floor. As the lodge intends holding a fortnightly dance in the near future this request was granted. Accounts amounting to £5 Is 9d were passed for payment. BOXING CLUB. Tho usual weekly practice for the members of tho Rongotea Boxing Club was held in tho Coronation Hall on Monday evening. A large number of boxers and enthusiasts were in attendance and some very interesting fights were witnessed. As the annual tournament conducted under tho auspiocs of the club is to bo held at Rongotea on the 27th instant, all the contestants are very fit, and it is anticipated that the hall will again bo packed to capacity. Tho star bouts of the evening will be between Jacobs (Rongotea) and Iloldom (Pahiatua), and Poupard (Rongotea) versus O’Reilly (Foilding). Ton other very interesting bouts have been arranged between local contestants and the best of the amateur talent in tho Manawatu. The club's instructor, Air L. Poupard, ha 6 not spared any effort to see that his boys are in the pink of condition; tho secretary, Mr A. C. Eades, has arrangements weli in hand for the tournament, and, providing that the weather is good, the fans who will be in attendance at tho tournament are promised a very good night’s sport. During the practice tho management committee of tho club held a meeting to make final arrangements for the tournament, the following being in attendance: Messrs A. H. Burgess (chairman), A. C. Eades (secretary), K. A. Trenkner, P. H. Farland, S. R. Young, Thos. Fraser, N. 11. Knight and A. N. Morcom. Mr Trenkner was instructed to interview a doctor whoso services are required at the tournument. All the competitors will receive supper in Rongotea after the tournament is over. Messrs Poupard and Burgess 'were instructed to purchase the trophies for the tournament. Several minor tasks were given tire various officials and tho tournament promises to be one of tho most successful held by tho club.
