DANGER OF RAGWORT.
PROPERTY NOT CLEARED. ASHHURST FARMER FINED. Pleading guilty to a charge of failing to clear his farm of 24 acres at Asiihurst of ragwort, a farmer, M. J. Murphy, appeared before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North this morning. The proceedings were brought by Mr B. Grant on behalf of the noxious weeds inspector. „ Mr Grant said that defendant had been warned on several occasions and had been served with the requisite notices. On one visit the inspector had been abused and defendant had point blank refused to cut the ragwort. Defendant said that the ragwort had been cleared now. He had not attended to it before as he had suffered from sickness. There had been hot words with tho inspector on one occasion, but defendant contended that he had been addressed disrespectfully. He had stated that if his neighbours would clear their ragwort he would clear his. His Worship: Do not worry about your neighbours, but clean your own ragwort. Tho inspector will nttend to them. A fine of £2 with costs 10s was imposed.
