PORT OF LONDON.
NEW LANDING STAGE. OPENED BY PRIME MINISTER. (British Official Wirelees.) Received May 19, 10.5 a.m. RUGBY, May 18. The Port of London’s new passenger landing stage at Tilbury was officially opened yer„-rday by the Prime Minister, Mr Ramsay MacDonald. The landing stage is 742 ft. long and Btt. wide, floating on 63 huge steel pontoons, and carries a double deck building 500 ft. long. Five bridges connect the shore with the stag*, which projects 370 ft. from the river bank and rises and falis with the tide, this movement averaging 21ft. Tho scheme cost £700,000. It will mako possible tho discontinuance of the practice of carrying passengers by tender between the shore and vessels lying in the river. Liners will now be able to lie alongside at any tide.
