VALUELESS CHEQUES.
SIX MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 18. Appearing, for sentence tin aeven charges of issuing valueless cheques and obtaining money and goods totalling £44, Walter Joseph Bunting, a land agent, aged 38, was on Saturday morning sentenced to six months’ gaol by Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M. For nino months the police were puzzied by Bunting’s sudden disappearance. He had passed volueless cheques at Papatoetoe, Russell and Ohaewai in August of last year, and he was not seen or heard of again until Saturday, when he gave himself up. “I have made inquiries from the probation officer,” 6aid the Magistrate. “I find that this man did eighteen months for cattle-stealing or some cattle fraud. He was let out on license, and as soon as he was out he started issuing these cheques. 1 robation is out of tho question.’
