(From Our Own Correspondent). OTAKI, May 16. As usual the Otaki Fire Brigade’s euchre party and dance, held on Wednesday evening, was well attended and proved very enjoyable. Mr C. B. Smyth won the gentlemen's prize, but kindly handed it back, while Mrs Larsen won the prizo given for the ladies. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs Flutey and Mr Denton. Mrs Morse left yesterday for Napier for a holiday. Mrs R. Manins will accompany Mr Manins to Sydney, and their son Robert will join them later. Mr and Mrs L. G. Lowry, with their little son, I,en, leave for England on Tuesday. Meml>ers of the Taliiwi family left yesterday for Auckland, where they will catch the Ulimaroa for Sydney. Their singing will bo recorded. Mr and Mrs FI. J. Bcarse, who have been in Napier for some time, returned home on Wednesday evening. Mr Pearse, who has been in indifferent health, is much improved. Mr and Mrs W. Fielding, Mrs Jepson and Mrs J. Fielding, who have been on a motor tour of the South Island, have returned to their homes. A team from the Levin Golf Club visited Otaki on Wednesday for an inter-club match, which resulted in a win for the home players by eight games to four. The following are the results (Otaki players mentioned first)J. B. D’Ath lost to 11. Blythe, 2 and 1; C. Holmes lost to W. Goodwin, 2 and 1; K. Winterburn won from E. W. Clark, 3 and 2; W. H. Wills won from 11. Bull, 4 and 3; W. FI. Gray won from J. D. Brown, 4 and 3; F. S. Siincox won from W. Bull, 5 and 3; J. Ronald lost to G. Stern, 6 and 5; Dr. Milne lost to Dr. Thompson, 3 and 2; E. Morse won from G. Wilson, 2 up; G. D. Hamilton won from J. Challies, 2 up; F. Young won from G Blake, 7 and 6; D. Willkinson won from W. Monks, 6 and 4. A splendid response was made to the effort of the Combined Sports Clubs of the districts in their endeavour to raise funds for a presentation to Mr “Jack” Taylor, who met with a painful accident lately whilst getting a horse ready for the .Levin sports gatnering. The large hall was j)acked and a most enjoyable time was spent by all prosent. Mr Hogan was M.C., and all members of the committee worked splendidly, especially the ladies, headed by Mrs Flagan. At a suitable interval the chairman of the sports committee, Mr 11. L. Beauchamp, thanked all for their support and spoke of the fine spirit underlying the proceedings. Mr Boauchatnp expressed the wish, in which he was sure all would join, that Mr “Jack” Taylor would soon be well again. Several competitions were held during the evening and resulted as follows: Caso of cutlery (donated by Mrs Fiebig), won by Miss F. M. Beauchamp; box of chocolate (donated by Mrs Royal), won by Miss Joan Murray; cake (presented by Mr Askew), won by Mr H. L. Beauchamp; fruit bowl, presented by the sports committee and won by Miss Edna Morgan.
