OBITUARY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) MAETON, May 16. The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr William Hull, in his 85th year. Deceased had lived in retirement in Marton for seven years and tjie major portion of his life wns spent in the Hawko’s Bay district. Mr Hull came from Southampton in the sailing ship Rakaia in 1879 and settled at Makotuku, Hawke’s Bay. Ho was engaged for,many years in the contracting and road building occupations and in this connection had much to do with tho providing of access in that part of tho country known as tho Forty Milo Bush. Deceased was of a retiring disposition, but very well liked by all his associates. Mr Hull leaves a widow and four daughters and two sons —Mrs J. Hammond (Horopito), Mrs N. A. Neilsen (Marton), Mrs E. Fletcher (Mnrton), Mrs R. T. Thom (Wellington), Mr S. Hull (Ongaonga, Hawko’s Bay), and Mr W. Hull (Rangataua, Main Trunk). Tho interment, of a private nature, took piaco at Mount View cemetery to-day. RANGITIKEI HUNT. Excellent sport was enjoyed by followers of the hounds in a meet at "Olosebum,” on Wednesday, and tho run was voted to be one of tho best ever experienced. The day was beautifully fine, the scent was good and hares were plentiful. There was a large field, the members being entertained at afternoon tea by Mr and Mrs W. J. Simpson. Lourie, P. Simpson, 11. Cameron, I. Simpson, T. Fullerton-Smith and D. Christensen. GENERAL. The Taihape Bowling Club’s season was officially closod on W’ednesday. The principal prize-winners this season were: Championship singles, Rev. E. Bandy; championship pairs, Rev. E. Bandy and D. Neaglo; champion rink, A. M. Ryan, C. Murphy, D. McLennan and W. McKnight; junior champion, It. J. Bowie; handicap singles, R. J. Bowie. A refreshing fall of rain came during the night and continued in intermittent showers throughout the day. Provided conditions do not bccomo very cold, tho change will not be unwelcome. The Old Beys Football Club, at a meeting last night, received an invitation from tho Manawatu Union to participate in a soven-a-sido tournament at Palmerston North on June 3. The matter was left to tho captain. Other matters, of minor importance, were also dealt with. The fourth anniversary of the establishment of the Huntervillo branch, Women’3 Division, Farmers’ Union wus field yesterday, tho occasion being celebrated by a birthday party. Mrs C. C. Jackson, of Mastcrton, Dominion president, was presont and addressed those in attendance. Entertaining items were rendered by Misses England and Irene Illston. Tho cake was maßo by Miss Howie. Mrs P. Weston (president) and Mesdames L. Lambert and J. Brown were oppointed delegates to the Dominion conference. PERSONAL. Miss M. A. Sanderson, of Marton, is spending a short holiday with friends in the Wairarapa prior to sailing for England. Mr Fred Purnell, Mayor of Marton, was yesterday re-elected chairman of the Wanganui-ltangitikei Electric Power Board.
