NAPIER TRAGEDY.
BLUFF HILL SLIDE. i Per Press Association. NAPIER, May 14. Measurements made to-day show that 1150 cubic yards, or 1660 tons, of material, cljiefly* limestone rock, came down in the fall from the Bluff Hill cliff-face which killed Mina Clare Kauter and Douglas William Barr. Of the total quantity rather more than one-third fell on to the road and footpath, completely blocking the thoroughfare with a pilp up to ten or twelve feet high and for a length of thirty feet. Gangs have been engaged all day in clearing the spoil, and are continuing in the hope of making a passage for one-way traffic late tonight. At an inquest into the death of the victims, a verdict of accidental death was returned. The jury, added a recommendation that the local body or bodies concerned should appoint some competent .person to report from time to time on the condition of the cliff, in view of the heavy traffic using the Breakwater Road.
