ENGINEER’S REPORT. At yesterday’s meeting of the Oroua County Council the engineer (Mr R. L. Harding) reported as under : —Eastern Riding.— Pohangina Road drain has been cleaned out for its full length and Henson’s drain also attended to. An old wooden culvert on Pohangina Road has been replaced with 12 inch concrete pipes. The main street in Ashhurst has been gravelled and repairs have been carried out on Henaghan’s Line. The work of deepening and widening the drain on Hackett’s Road has been put in hand. A start has been made at constructing the concrete bridge over Stoney Creek on Henaghan’s Line. Excavations for the foundations have been completed and by the end of this month the abutments and wing walls will have been carried roads have been repaired with gravel from the crusher at Menzies’ Ford: Taonui Road North. 371 yards, Aorangi Road 90 yards, Taonui-Bunnythorpe 12 yards, Taonui-Raumai 584 yards, Eeikling-Aslihurst 236 yards, total 1292 yards. Owing to the fall in temperature it -was found necessary to stop the work of sealing the TaonuiBunnythorpe Road. This will cause no inconvenience to motorists as the whole length of this road has received the first coat of road oil which has provided quite a good surface. About 70 chains of this road have been completed. Western Riding.—The contract for gravelling Makino and Wilson’s Roads is proceeding satisfactorily, over 700 yards having been delivered to date. Some repairs were also carried out on Junction Road. The two large concrete culverts on Makino Road at Onepuhi have been completed and opened to traffic. A portion of the Ivaknriki Rood is in a rough state and when the crusher is installed in this locality this road will be scarified and remetalled.. In preparation for this work the formation has been widened. The following gravel has been delivered from the crushing plant: Eeilding-Halcombe road 170 yards, Kiinbolton Road 265 yards, Reid’s Line 251 yards, Makino Road 248 yards, total 934 cubic yards. Owing to the probability that the lorries carting logs over the Reu Reu Road would cause excessive damage to the newdy formed portions, it was deemed advisable to call on the person responsible to enter into an agreement to make good any damage done.
