CHRISTCHURCH ROBBERIES.
THIEVES SET FIRE TO SHOP. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 14. A fire attended by sensational circumstances occurred at the corner of Clyde Road, Fendalton, early' this morning. Thieves raided a block of four shops by smashing in the front doors. They then set fire to one, a tobacconist’* shop, tenanted by. Mr Fred Whiteman. This was gutted, and the others were damaged by smoke and water. Later in th© night thieves entered a shop in Stanmore Road. Linwood, and stole £l4 from the till. They were disturbed and decamped. Subsequently the police found an abandoned car in Linwood, with a stock of stolen tobacco, etc., therein.
