A SECOND OFFENCE. (From Our Own Correspondent). MARTON, May 12. Charged before Mr W. Ingle, J.P., today with being drunk in a public place, George Thomas Donaldson was fined £l. It was his second oiience within six months. THE LETHBRIDGE MEMORIAL. A marble tablet, to the memory of the late Mr B. B. Lethbridge, who was chairman of the Rangitikei County Council, chairman of the Wanganui Hospital Board and one of the chief movers in the establishment of children’s health camps, was unveiled in the Presbyterian Church, Turakina, yesterday by Mrs Lethbridge. There was a large congregation, worshippers coming from all along the coast, and an inspiring address was delivered by Rev. It. H. Cathenvood, who referred to Mr Lethbridge as “a true gentleman.” The health camp, the preacher said, was the triumph of Mr Lethbridge’s life. GENERAL. A settlement of the Taihape oval grandstand dispute is now in sight, the Borough Council having carried a motion that sports bodies and other societies using the grandstand be given 25 per cent of the total takings. An attempt is being made to form a men’s hockey club in Marton. It is reported by Mr G. T. Avery, local secretary of the Acclimatisation Society, that paradise ducks have been seen on the Rangitikei River. The birds are not often seen in the North Island. Members of Martin Golf Club will play a match at Foilding next week-end . PERSONAL. Miss K. Smith has returned to Taihape from Wanganui. Miss Bessie Gaisford, who was very successful with her partner in the Manawatu ladies’ golf tournament, has returned to Marton. Mrs B. N. Lane and Mrs Mouckton are visiting Wellington. Mr p. pi. Hall is a Marton visit to Wellington. Mrs A. Sherman, who has been visiting Marton, has returned to Raratonga. Mrs A. Sherinan, who has been visiting Marton, has returned to Raratonga.
