MEETING OF CABINET

“WILL BE MOMENTOUS.” MINISTERS GO NORTH. When the Limited express passed through Palmerston North last evening it carried a full complement of the country’s political leaders. They were travelling to an important meeting of Cabinet which is being held today at Rotorua. Attached to the end of the train was the Ministerial car containing Hons. G. W. Forbes (Minister of Lands and Agriculture and ActingLeader of the United Party), H. Atmore (Minister for Education), J. G. Cobbe (Minister for Defence) and P. A. do la Perrelie (Minister for Internal Affairs). Accompanying these members of the Cabinet were Colonel McDonald. M.P.. Mr G. C. Black, M.P. (Motueka) and Mr F. D. Thomson, the Prime Minister’s chief secretary. Hon E. A. Ranson (Minister for Public Works), who had arrived in Palmerston North some hours earlier, joined the Ministerial party at tine centre. Considerable importance was attached to the appearance among the travellers of Mr Vincent A. Ward, son of the Prime Minister, and a member of his secretarial staff. “Yes, the meeting will be a momentous one,” said Hon. E. A. Ransom to a “Standard” reporter. He declined to commit himself to further comment and advanced no reasons for his statement so far as it might concern the legislative programme. j# Interviewed by the “Standard, Hon. J. G. It is expected that several other Ministers who have been out of Wellington for some days will return to 'Wellington on Thursday with those who went north last night. , The only absentee from to-day s meeting will be the Attorney-General (Sir Thomas Sidey), who did not return from the South Island yesterday morning as was originally intended. PRIME MINISTER’S HEALTH. Although the Prime Minister has not yet decided on a date for his return to headquarters, he hopes to be back in Wellington soon. This information was contained in a letter received by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last evening from Sir Joseph Ward. In the letter Sir Joseph expressed appreciation of the kind sentiments recently expressed regard,in~ his health, and intimated that he was improving daily as a result of the air and treatment at Rotorua.
