SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, May 13. Tho usual monthly mooting of the Rongotca School Committee was hold in tho school on Monday evening, when tho following wero in attendance; —Messrs W. J. Amies, chairman. H. V. Cavcrhill, R. Buchanan, A. Hill and W. Matheson. Tho headmaster’s report read as follows: I have to report that tho present roll number is 102, and that the average attendnneo is satisfactory. Four yards of gravel donated by Mr A. Hill have been deposited at tho school gate in readiness for cementing the paths. A stock of coke has also arrived. Mr Lange visited tho school during tho past week and his report on tho schoolgrounds was most complimentary. I am pleased to state that, judging from the first term examinations, tho pupils in all classes are making very satisfactory progress with the year’s work. I should like to suggest that tho committee purchase a supply of hedge plants to provide a hedge from the school entrance to the entrance of the horse So.ddock. A letter was received from tho lulls School Committee stating that at tho Bulls annual meeting of householdors a resolution was passed protosting against tho action of tho Education Board in refusing a grant towards the cost of travelling incurred by children of this district attending secondary schools, and suggesting that it would strengthen the case if the Rongotea School Committee would pass a similar resolution. It was decided to forward a copy of the resolution passed at the Rongotea annual meeting to tho Bulls School Committee, regarding the transport of children to secondary schools. A letter is to bo forwarded to the Town Board requesting that a footpath curbing bo placed in front of tho entrance gates. A-dona-tion of ten shillings has boon received from tho Rongotea branch of tho Farmers’ Union for the best cultivated plot in the school mangold growing competition. The secretary was instructed to forward a letter of thanks to tho Farmers’ Union for the donation. It was decided to grant tho request of tho headmaster, for hedge plants, and that any amount not exceeding £2 10s bo spent on same. Accounts amounting to £5 11s 7d wore passed for payment.
