THE COMPETITIONS

NINTH ANNUAL FESTIVAL. Tlio Manawatu Competitions Society's ninth animal festival was continued at the Opera House yesterday afternoon and in the evening;. There were most interesting and attractive classes, and in some cases the fudges found it difficult to make a decision. Tlio judge of the instrumental and vocal section, Mr Crossloy Clitheroc, of Dunedin, recommended the public to hear the pianoforte playing and test sections. He stated that the standard was indeed good. The popular aceompanistc, Mrs W. H. IC. Gilmour, came in for a word of praise from the judges. Mr Russell Wood, judge in the elocutionary section, stated that her playing was most artistic; there was never a jarring note, and the competitors wore greatly assisted. , Detailed results are as follow: ELOCUTIONARY.
