RUGBY CONTROL

MANAWATU DISTRICT COUNCIL. Tire regular meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu District Rugby Council was held last evenwhen there were present: —Messrs It. Bly (in the chair), H. Crawford, J. It. Hardie, K. Eglinton, T. Pagan, K. Clevcly, H. Hands, T. McHerron, It. E. Hatch and P. O. SkogLand. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Colquhoun and Mackie. Tho F’cilding Club made application for tho regrading of S. Brown from senior to senior B.—Granted. The Feilding ITiglr Sciiool advised that during the holidays the school would lie unable to field .any teams in the third or fourth grade compositions. Provided byes could not be arranged, it would-be necessary for ilie teams to forfeit' for three Saturdays. —lt was decided that, in the event of the results having any bearing on the competition in tho .-espective grades, the games be played later. The Danncvirke Sub-Union advised that the selecting of a date for the fixture with Manawatu would no considered at its next meeting.—Received. The Oroua Sub-Union agreed to Saturday next as the date of the match with Manawatu B. The names of Messrs A. Shannon, N. J. Short and J. Cantwell were forwarded as referees available to control the fixture, conditionally on the club not allowing the home associations to make the appointment.—lt was decided to allow the Oroua Sub-Union to make the appointment of referee for Saturday’s match. It was further asked that a list (i Manawatu’s representative fixtures he forwarded to enable the selector of suitable dates lor the Oroua-Tc Ka-wau-Manawatu triangular games. —The list is to be supplied. Obejction was taken by the Oroua Sub-Union to the treatment extended to players (particularly those in reserve) selected from the sub-union for the ivorth team in the trial match ft Feilding, in not having been given an opportunity to show the selectors what they were capable of doing. This was particularly noticeable, concluded the writer as the selectors of the South team had played all their reserves in rotation. In commenting upon the protest Mr Pagan considered that the position was unfortunate for neither of the North selectors was included on the Manawatu selection committee and had not been aware whether further try-outs had been desired. Further, but two players had been nominated by Oroua and one had been included in the team and the other had been first emergency hack, hut had not been required. ’The speaker considered that the sub-unions should meet in a tryout prior to the North v. South match which would materially assist the North selectors. He accordingly moved that the sub-unions be recommended to take steps in that direction in future. Mr McHerron seconded and, when put to the meeting, the motion was carried. SEVEN-ASIDE TOURNEY.

Mr Pagan directed attention to the fact that nominations had been called for the 6even-aside tourney from senior, junior and third grade teams, but no arrangement had been made for senior B players. The secretary mentioned that the posters had been printed before it had been decided to operate a senior B grade in the inter-club competitions, Mr Hands suggested that nominations could stili be called from teams for a senior B tourney, but Mr Eglinton considered that these players were in reality juniors and should be admitted to the seven-aside tourney as juniors. A motion to this effect was put and carried. PLAYER STOOD DOWN. A. Burlace, of the Woodville Club, who had been ordered off the Held of play on Saturday before last for using objectionable language to the referee, declined to avail himself of the opportunity to present his case before the Council and he was dealt with in his absence. Mr Bly mentioned that lie had invited Burlace to make the trip across to tlio meeting, but the offer had been declined. Some comment was forthcoming relative to a player flouting an order of the Council, but it was decided to proceed with the case rather than enforce his attendance and, on the motion of Mr Eglinton, seconded by Mr Hardie, Burlace was stood down for four playing Saturdays from date. DELAY IN AMBULANCE. Mr Hatch commented upon the unfortunate delay which had been entailed on Saturday in tho transport of injured players to hospital. It had been found necessary for an order to be received from a doctor to secure the despatch of the ambulance, although, on further demands being made, the request had been granted. The secretary reported tiiat the ambulance had been absent at Feilding at the time and the delay which had occurred had been unavoidable. Li view of the fact that a telephone is now being installed at the Showgrounds, it was decided to make endeavours to arrange with the hospital authorities for telephone requests from an official of the Council to be granted. OROUA SUB-UNION. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, May 14. The Oroua Sub-Union met at Kimboltnn. a full representation of delegates being present. It was decided to warn \V. Robinson, a member of the Kimboiton team who was ordered off the field by the referee (Mr G. AV. Brown) for misbehaviour, that any further occurrence would be summarily dealt with. ~ The request of the AVanderors Club for blue jerseys with a gold band as their colours was agreed to. Attention was drawn by the Kimboiton delegate to the fact that the emergency members of the North team did not get a trial in the North v. South match at Feilding last week whereas the South emergencies had. It was decided to protest to the Mana-

watu Council at this seemingly unfair treatment. May 17 as the date of the Manawatu B, v. Oroua representative match at Kimbolton was accepted. The Appeal Board of the New Zealand Rugby Union wrote stating that it had dismissed the sub-Union's appeal against the New Zealand LTiiion's ruling in the case of the Kiwitea Club’s appeal. Waituna and Rangiwahia clubs wrote advising that injuries had been sustained by W. Dais and S. Ramsay, both being placed on the insurance list. It was decided to play a North v. South trial junior match on Saturday, 17th ilist., as a curtain raiser to the Manawatu B match and Mr A. E. Shannon was appointed to act together with Mr R. Matclielar to select the South team from Kimbolton, Waituna and Wanderers Clubs. The selectors for the North team are Messrs. J. Kilgour and F. H. Thompson. \V ith regard to the Oroua-Te Kawau v. Manawatu match, the secretary was instructed to communicate vvitli the secretary of To Kawau Sub-Union and arrange a date with him to submit to the Manawatu Council. The Te Kawau Sub-Union wrote suggesting that a conference be held by the Te Kawau Sub-Union, Feilding ciubs, and the Oroua Sub-Union representatives, to discuss representation oil the Manawatu-Ho rowhenua Council, and also the advisability of forming a Metropolitan Union. Messrs. A. R. McNae, N. '/. Shannon and J. Watt were appointed to represent the Oroua Sub-union, but the secretary was instructed to advise Te Kawau that the Oroua Sub-Union was in favour of such a conference only in the event of both Feilding representatives from Manawatu Rugby District Council being present. The following team has been selected to represent the Oroua Sub-Union in the match against 'Manawatu B at Kimbolton on Saturday next: P. Bercham, B. Kearney, R. Shannon, A. H. McNae, Fuller, C. McDougall, E. Bucknian, It. Viles, J. Cawood, V • Parsons, Monk, T. Beard, E. W. Beard, A. Martin and C. McGregor. Reserves: A. Glassford, H. Lewis, L. Browning, Hansen. All club matches will be postponed in consequence of the above game. FORMER FEILDING PLAYER. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, May . 14. Much satisfaction has been expressed in Feilding at the inclusion of Maurice Waldin in the Wanganui team to meet the English fifteen on May 21. This young stalwart will be remembered as having worn the green jersey of Feilding Old Boys and also the green and white colours of Manawatu and the striped uniform of Manawlienua. An active, tireless forward, Waldin is as versatile as he is energetic and has more than once delighted the spectators by his “dummying” through the defence. He is the second nlayer the Feilding High School lias sent to the Wanganui district, to gain distinction, the other one, “Kelly” Ball, having represented the river city in other centres on several occasions.
