DRAIN CLEANING.
TENDERS ACCEPTED. A meeting of the Manawatu Drainage Board was held yesterday afternoon to consider drain cleaning contract prices tendered by various contractors. There were present Messrs. Prouse (chairman), Thomas, Russell, Tanner, Mildon, Hamlin and Collis. Tenders were accepted for the Karere, Boundary Road, LongburnRongotea and Cameroh’s Line drains •at the contract prices of 2s lid, 2s 3d, Is 9d and Is 9d per chain respectively. In the case of the undermentioned drains, it was decided to put on day labour: Buick’s, Carmody’s, Whiskey Creek, Rowland’s and Guy’s drains. The matter of cleaning Thompson’s Drain was left in the hands of the chairman and Trustee Thomas with power to act. A discussion centred round the urgent need for pushing on the work with all speed of cleaning the drains for which no tenders had been received, the remedy being the putting on of day labour. It was stressed that the present was the best time to act in order that the work may be completed before the weather breaks. In this connection the top portion of Whiskey Creek was particularly stressed as being in need of attention.
