FOXTON.

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, May 12. At the meeting of tho Borough Council this evening the road foreman (Mr A. G. Huntley) reported that during tho past month the road staff had been engaged on the following works Cleaning drains in Russell, Jenks, Coley and Futter Streets and Norbiton Road, removing fence at junction of Johnston and PuiccU Streets, grading Moutoa Avenue and Norbiton Roads, No. 6 Line, Duncan, Spring, Purcell, Jenks and Robinson Streets. It was proposed to give Purcell Street a top-dress-ing of blinding material at the first opportunity and to still further widen the metalled portion of Jenks Street by tho frequent use of the grader. The poundkeeper reported that during tho month three' head of stock was impounded and driving fees amounting to 2s were collected. The district engineer advised that it would be very desirable to havo 35 chains of road between the end of Victoria Street and the commencement of the Himatangi Highway paved at the same time as the latter work was being undertaken. it was pointed out that the work being undertaken by the Manawatu Cminty is on a £3 for £1 basis and the district engineer suggested that the same subsidy apply to tho extra 35 chains. Ho mentioned, however, that tho matter was one between the Borough Council and tho Manawatu County Council and if tho borough and county were to bear half tho cost each tho work would not amount to much more than about £IBO each.
