RANGIOTU.

RUGBY FOOTBALL. lIUIA 38 v. AWAHURI 6. (From Our Own Correspondent). RANGIOTU, May 12. The match between the Huia and Awahuri junior teams played on the local ground last Saturday afternoon proved a one-sided and disappointing affair when the Huias soundly trounced their opponents to the tune of 38 points to 6. Awahuri ’most unfortunately failed to muster their full fighting forces, consequently a good deal of interest in tho game was lost. Tho Huias, on the other hand, fielded a strong team, while several of the local team’s reserves were allowed to play for the visitors to help swell their depleted ranks. For the loosers, Kuru, C. Cribb, Waka and Smith were most outstanding, the last two mentioned players scoring a try each for their side. For the Huias tries were scored ny W. Gimblett (3), J. Nairn© (2), J. Gupweil (1), A. Bishop (1), S. Gilmour (1), Poto Governor (1), 11. Fitches (1) and one converted try and W. Larkins three converted tries. Next Saturday the local team will be playing Hui Mai at Sanson. Mr W. Hines controlled tho gamo. SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. Th© monthly meeting of the local school committee wus held last Friday evening, thore being present Messrs T. Donaldson (chairman), J. Shaw, R. Carkeek, and L. J. Walker (secretary). Apologies we He received from Messrs E. L. Russell and H. 11. Simmons for their unavoidable absence. Tho chairman stated that, owing to the reduced capitation, strict attention to financial matters would have to be exercised. After a general discussion on the matter, tho committee decided to hold a function at some future date to augment the general funds of the school. A generous donation of 11s 6d was received from the secretary (Mr White), of tho Mangawhata Social Committeo, towards the sports funds of the school. It was resolved that a beautifying scheme bo inaugurated and that a special meeting be called in order to go further into the matter. The chairman pointed out that tho recent improvements made to tho frontage of the school grounds, by the removal of the hill at no cost to tho board, had greatly enhanced the valuo and appearance of the property. It was therefore essential that some sort of scheme bo introduced in the matter of planting ornamental trees and the laying down of gardens. It was decided to write to the secretary of tho Hall Society, thanking that body for tho special consideration —free of charge—for the use of the public hall to tho school children for functions which may be held in the hall during tho afternoons on their behalf when such occasions arise. A donation of grass seed for tho school grounds was gratefully accepted from Mr Donaldson.
