The death occurred last night of Mr Thomas Ferens, aged 83. whoso gifts to public and charitable objects are estimated to have exceeded £1,000,000. His native town of Hull in particular benefited from his generosity, and he founded the University college there with a gift of £250,000. He began life as a clerk in a wellknown firm, and died chairman of the company.
