BETTING ON COURSE.
OFFENCE AT FEILDING. PENALTY OF £lO. Charged with having taken a bet on the result of a horse race at Feilding on April 19, "Walter James Johnson, of Palmerston North, appeared before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate s Court this morning. He pleaded guilty. Senior-Detective Quirke stated that while the Feilding races were in progress defendant was caught betting among the public in the outside enclosure of the course. He had taken bets amounting to £2O. Nothing previously was known against him. The Magistrate imposed a penalty of £lO, with 3s costs.
