INJURY TO GRIME
BOXING BOUT POSTPONED. SYDNEY PUGILIST’S ILL-LUCK. HAWERA, May 9. Through an injury sustained while training for his contest with Tommy Donovan at Hawera on May 16, Billy Grime has been forced to seek a postponement. Grime was indulging in a workout on the golf course at Hawera, and slipped on a steep slope and injured an ankle so severely that ho had to be assisted back to his quarters. An examination disclosed that the ankle was swelling and bruising from the instep to the calf of the left leg, with pains in the leg muscles. At an emergency meeting the match committee of the Hawera Boxing Association decided to postpone the contest indefinitely. BY LEGAL PROCESS. BONER DEMANDS PAYMENT. MORGAN MAKES A CLAIM. WELLINGTON, May 10. At a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Boxing Association this week, it was decided to consider the report of the Hawke’s Bay Boxing Association concerning the recent disqualification of Ted Morgan, at a council meeting to be held in the near future. According to the rules of the New Zealand Boxing Association, the council has power to fine, suspend or order forfeiture of the share of a purse due to the boxer who has been reported by a local association for alleged deliberate foul punching; on the other hand, the council may order the complaining local association to pay the disqualified boxer his percentage of the purse. Morgan’s manager (Pat Connors) is not taking any risks, and, instead of pursuing the decision from the council, has placed the matter in the hands of his solicitor, who has been instructed by Connors to demand payment from the H.8.8.A. Q{ course, should the council decide to order the Hastings people to make immediate payment to Morgan, Connors may instruct his solicitor to drop proceedings, pending the remittance of the £57 odd. The position is interesting for it is doubtful whether a boxer or his manager has previously in New Zealand displayed such total disregard for the signed articles of agreement, bv way of ordering legal action, with possible proceedings in Court.
