ATTEMPT TO CLIMB UNCONQUERED PEAK OF HIMALAYAS.—An expedition, including mountaineers of five nations is at present endeavouring to climb Mount Kanchenjunga, 28,000 feet in height. Here is a view of the Zemu Glacier, which lies beneath the eastern precipices of Kanchenjunga. In 1899 Mr Douglas Fresfield and a party made a complete circuit at the foot of the majestic mountain and explored the approaches, but their plans for climbing were foiled by a snow storm. His camp beside the glacier is shown here.
