EGMONT CLUB’S MEETING. AURORA BOREALIS WINS THE steeples. Per Press Association. HAWERA, May 10. The second day ot the Egmont_ Racing Club’s winter meeting was held in fine woather before a good attendance. Tho tracks were in perfect order and summer like conditions prevailed. The totalisator handled £18,340 10s, an increase of £172 10s over tho amount on tho second day last year. For the two days tho total was £36,378 10s on increase of £263 over last year. The opening event saw Royal Finance a favourite, and after following Paiko, Patearoa and Tentcall into the straight she could not go on, Paiko winning by head from Patearoa, with the favourite two lengths away. Tentcall and Ben Hur wero next. Glcnstar and Royal Acre were the favourites in the Manawopou hurdles and paid the dividends. Royal Acre took charge five furlongs from home and Glenstar, who had dropped back, could not bridge the gap, Royal Acre beating him by a length. Airforce, four lengths back, just beat Whisogne. Maidos and Maunga blundered early in the Adamson Steeplechase and lost their riders. Aurora Borealis took chargo two fences from home to beat Diana’s Lad by two lengths, with Airtight six lengths back. Waitaunaha was a good fourth. Lady Quox, who was a hot favourite in the Mokoia Handicap, waitod on the leaders, Benzora and Te Atiawa, to tho turn and then gradually forged ahead to beat them and the strongly-fishing Hopwood by a length, with Melissa half a length away, and Llanore, To Atiawa and Atholsper right up. Blue Paper was a hot favourite and was early in the van in the Shorts Handicap, but Valstreet headed him off in the run home to win by two lengths. Patearoa also beat Blue Paper by a length and a half, with Rule Britannia, Win Acre and Annoyer together handy. Silvermine, with Hector Gray up, was regarded as a racecourse certainty for tho Davidson Handicap, but failed over the last two furlongs and made a good dividend for the supporters of Chopin. At the home turn, Just So, which made the pace throughout, was leading Yoma, The Swell, Break o’ Day, Silvermine and Chopin, The Swell was in front at tho half distance, but Chopin shot up in the last 50 yards to beat The Swell by a neck, with Mountain Heath two lengths back. Just So was close up fourth. Goldlike and Merry Melody were well backed for the Borough Handicap, but failed to show up at the business end. Latakia led in tho jump out from Brilliant Light, Joyspear, and Merry Melody. Latakia was well clear at tho straight entrance from Brilliant Light and Potoleer, and finished on to beat Werata’s challenge by a hoad, with Joyspear a length away. The Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting was continued to-day in perfect weather. There was a very big attendance, and the track was very fast. The totalisator handled £33,766 compared with £32,844 last year, tho total for the meeting being £56,848 10s against £54,794 10s last year. In the Tahuna Handicap, with less than half a mile to go, Standby, who was always handy, took charge and won by nearly four lengths from Ambition. Molly Nelson was fourth. In tho Royal Handicap, Belinda, the favourite, led Lady Zephyr and Ulm into tho .straight, where Ellcrgro came on the outside. Belinda ran home comfortably, a winner by two lengths in the fast time of 4.34 3-5.

El Direct moved up along the back in the Pacific Handicap and was on the outside of Liberal, Peter Daunt and John Noble as they turned into the straight. The favourite, John Noble, was well beaten a furlong from home, where El Direct ran past and won comfortably by over a length. Vecto got away smartly in the Railway Handicap and was in front most of tnc way. In tho last lap, Kinney Dillon moved up and was first into the straight, but in tho run homo Vccto won by a length. In ...the Victory Handicap, Omaha led most of the way and was still in charge at the top of the straight, where Native Prince came very fast to win by two lengths. Omaha was fourth. In the last lap of tho Peninsula Handicap, Quicktiro opened up a big gap, but broke at the far turn and settled down again quickly and led Boneta into the straight.
