WEST END SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The West End School committee held its monthly meeting last night when Mr G. Tremaine was in the chair. Others present wero Messrs H. Beattie, H. Healy, T. Downing, J. McPhee, J. Warner, and G. K. Holder. The committee passed a_ tote of sympathy with Mr C. H. Whitehead, chairman, in the death of his mother, members standing in silence. Mr F. W. Moore, also wished the staff and himself to bo associated with tho committee in expressing sympathy to Mr Whitehead. HEADMASTER’S REPORT. Tho headmaster presented his monthly report in which ho stated that the average attendance for tho term had been 328.6, and the average roll 355.2. A total of 70 pupiH had been admitted and 31 had been withdrawn. At tho beginning of the month, Miss G. Pimlcy took up a position at Napier and Miss E. D. Tiley was lelieving pending Miss L. H. Waters taking up her duties. Miss Pimley's departure was a matter for much regret, her fine work in iho classroom and her interest in the school activities having made her a very valuable asset on the staff. The concrete area had been marked out for basketball, and tho headmaster said he would be glad of tho committee’s assistance in making some necessary improvements. Tho football posts also required renewing, and the sports funds needed assistance in connection with material for the winter sports now commencing.—-Tho report was adopted. The committee decided to agree to the appointment of Miss Lorna H. Waters to tho position rendered vacant by tho transfer of Miss Pimley Mr Healy presented a medal for tho most improved football player during tho season, tho committeo according him a hearty vote of thanks for his generosity. Accounts amounting to £l7 8s 3d wero passed for payment. On Mr Tremaine’s motion, a vote of £7 10s was made to tho headmaster for sports purposes. A letter was received from Mrs E. L. Christian offering to arrange a concert in aid of the school baths. The secretary was instructed to write to Mrs Christian asking her to suggest a suitable date in June. Tho committeo granted tho headmaster permission to take steps concerning the purchase of a duplicator. Tho Arbor Day arrangements wero left till tho next meeting for finalisation. Messrs A. N. Beatty and J. "Warner were appointed a visiting committeo for tho following months.
