RUGBY PRACTICES.

LOCAL CLUBS ENGAGED. PROMISING INDIVIDUAL . ~ EFFORTS. . With the opening of the 1930 Rugbyseason at an early date, local clubs were engaged in practice games on Saturday afternoon, as a means to assisting them in their training operations. At the Park Road area Ivia Toa' and United opposed one another, but with the latter-club fielding but a skeleton, senior ./team,' the double blues enjoyed a comfortable victory, the amalgamated club - being unable to penetrate the Kia Tea defence, although they made bold bids on occasions. The junior B team and the third grade members Of the Kia Toa Club engaged in a practice game, while the junior A fifteen journeyed across to the Massey College to indulge in a trial of strength with the collegians, winning an even co’ntest by 11 points to six. , At the High School ground a third grade game between Old Boys and the newly formed Y.M.C.A. team, in which the older club was fully extended to annex the victory over their opponents, preceded a try-out between the senior and junior members of the Old Boys Club, the senior forwards being partnered with the junior rearguard and the junior forwards with the senior backs. Play was fast throughout and the trial proved an _ excellent _ pipeopener. Present indications point to Old Boys and Kia Toa being once again particularly strong", both numerically as well as from' the point of .view of playing .strength, and it is not improbable that both clubs will field two teams in the junior grade or, failing, such,, two in the third grade. Reports from Feilding indicate that the amber and' blacks will ' field a formidable Combination arid-the opening of the season on the 26th should produce some highly interesting-foot-ball despite the earliness of activities. HOROWHENUA UNION. . The Horowlienua Rugby Union opened its season on Saturday when the following games were played:—_ . Seniors. —Wanderers 17 v. Hui Mai 3; Foxtoc 14 v.
