HOROWHENUA COUNTY.
(From Our Own Correspondent). , OTAKI, April 10. At the monthly meeting of the Otaki Borough Council a letter was received from tho Audit Department, stating that it was of the opinion that £6OO received from the Native Department in part settlement of the council’s claim against Natives for outstanding rates should be allocated to the general account and each interest account in proportion to the general and special Native rates outstanding in respect of each such account. The Horowhenua Rugby Council advised that it had decided to accept- the offer of the council at £8 per year for the domain. Mr W. C. Childs (secretary of the Otaki Football (Club) wrote stating that the club was desirous of a grant towards its funds, adding that a previous request had been held in abeyance. The council agreed that if a grant was given other sports bodies might make a similar request, while it was alsp pointed out that the council had erected gates and assisted in removing the cricket pitch. It was agreed hot to make a donation. The Mayor stated that- he had had a visit "from Dr. Doris Gordon, asking-if tho Yiouncil would givo a donation to the obstetrical appeal. A donation of £3 3s was made.
