WAGES IN JAPAN.
PROPOSED REDUCTION. RIOTING AT MILLS. Received April 10, 9.5 a.m. TOKIO, April 9. The proposed 30 per cent, wages reduction by Kanegafuchi, the leading wealthy spinning company, because of business depression is threatening to create labour troubles throughout the nation. Other companies will inevitably follow the example. In the event of a strike the workmen will forfeit their claims to participation in the retirement pension funds. The latest developments are causing the Government the utmost misgivings. Rioting is reported at Kanegafuchi’s Osaka mill. There are similar outbreaks at other mills.
