MINISTER PRAISED.
HON. H. ATMORE’S WORK. Per Press Association. . . HAMILTON, April 8. Despite criticism levelled at him in certain Labour quarters for his recent eulogy of the Minister of Public Works Mr Lee Martin, Labour M.P. for Ragl lan, is not deterred from voicing . his opinions; & Mr ' Martin spoke at the Raglan town Hall last evening on the occasion of the visit ,of the Minister of .Education, Hon. H. Atmore.' He described Mr Atmore as one of the best Ministers of Education New Zealand ever had. The speaker said that he must be fair and honest when speaking of the work which Mr Atmore had accomplished, not only in connection with improvements in the educational system and efforts to retard the drift to the towns ; but also for what he was dbing as Minister m charge of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Rewould make bold to say that if the work being done by officers detailed by the Minister to investigate the problem of cattle-sickness which was so prevaknt in so many districts' in the Auckland province, was brought to a successful conclusion, Mr Atmore would earn the commendation and thanks of thousands of farmers who today hardly knew which way to turn because of the losses Ahey had experiThe speaker was sure that what the Minister, was doing in directing this research work over a very large terri- > portions of which the speaker and others had been privileged to visit the previous day, would make his name stand out ns ope of the finest Ministers this country had had. Mr Martin added that he could honestly pay this tribute without feeling that he- was m any way “softsoaping or “back-rubbing.” He was a poor sort of man who could not give credit where credit was due, even though that credit was to a political opponent.
