(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, April 7. A butter-bean, grown in ’luurunga, is now on exhibition in a local shop. It is nearly 4ft in length. Miss Jewel, ot To Horo, has loft for tho south on her annual holiday, Air A. Dixqn, of Otaki, and Jus nephew, Air A. Bird, of Oroua Downs, huvo left for Christchurch pn holiday. Airs Peare, accompanied by her daughter, Ngaire, of Wellington, were among the visitors to Otaki yesterday. Nurse bell, who has beon on a month’s holiday, has resumed her duties. Nurse Rogerson, who wus relieving, has gone north to Durgavillc. Air and Airs Bruce Forgueon, accompanied by their | daughter, wero among tho visitors to , Otaki yesterday. Airs Forguson, who' lias • been staying in Levin on' account of in- : disposition, is much improved, but will bo on crutches for three months yet. The death occurred last evening at Mou- I tero Hospital of Airs Robert John Alai- ; colm, aged 36 years. The deceased,'who was : well-known in this district, was tile eldest ! daughtor of tho late Hon. W. D. S. Alan- j donald, and lcavos a husband and three child, j ren to mourn their loss. The late Airs Alai- : colm, who was born at Tokomaru Bay I (East Coast) for some time livocj in Otaki, 1 Mr Malcolm then being on the staff of tho Bank of New Zealand. Airs Malcolm also lived in Levin, Wellington and Waikanae. It is probable that the AH Blacks will undergo training operations in (Haiti. Air j “Bert” Palliser is doing liis utmost to ■ bring this about. j The Otaki Golf Club opened its season 1 i on Saturday last under perfect weather conditions, and with a large attendance of members and visitors. The Units wore in exceptionally good order for the time of year, although a good rainfall would bo ? beneficial. Tho president, Air W. M. Sim-! cox, drove tho first ball and declared the season opened. Competitions wero hold, and the following were successful Long driv-, ing, Air M. W. Higginson, 226 yards; ap- j fnoaching and putting. Tho local players wero Windley, Nicolson, Noble, Satherlev (skip) while tho northerners were Foss, Sherwood, Brewster, Bull (skip). } Levin won by 21 points to 13.
