GLIDER IN TOW.

NOVEL FLIGHT OVER-AMERICA. NEW YORK, April 7. , Captain Frank Hawks completed his trans-Continental flight in a glider towed by an aeroplane this afternoon. Three times since last Sunday, when he started from Los Angeles, his tow lino from tho aeroplane broke, but he merely glided to earth with perfect landings. He has made from 500 to 600 miles daily, sleeping in an hotel each night. On Saturday he flew from Indianapolis to Buffalo. He slipped the towrope at an altitude of 5000 feet and dropped down half an hour later in front of the hangar. AIR MAIL. NEW YORK TO SOUTH AMERICA. WASHINGTON, April 6. The . Assistant-Postroaster-General, Mr Irving, has announced the inauguration on April 26 of a seven days’ airmail service from New York to Buenos Aires and Montevideo. VAN LEAR BLACK IN JAPAN. TOKIO, April 7. Mr Van Lear Black, the Baltimore newspaper proprietor, and also an experienced aviator, left Osaka at 10 a.m. to-day and arrived at Tachikawa Aerodrome, Tokio, at noon. The last stage of his flight was uneventful. Mr Van Lear Black left Croydon on his flight to the East on February 11. His machine is a new Kokker three-engined monoplane replete with many novel devices. It created most lively interest among flying people at Croydon. Mr Geysendorffer, chief pilot, said that Mr Black hoped to extend his flight to tho Dutch East Indies and Australia. Mr Black lias been twice already to Japan and once to the Cape. He is getting too used to flying across Africa, Europe and India, and wants to see Sydney. Mr Black’s crew includes two secretaries. PIPER AND KAY. SHORTLY TO VISIT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND April 7. Private advices received at Mangere by the parents of Flying Officer C. E. Kay state that Messrs Kay and Piper, of the R.A.F., who after their meritorious flight from England to Australia are at present in Sydney, will visit their homes next week. Tlie airmen will sail from Sydney on Friday next in the 'Ulimaroa. The steamer is due to arrive at Auckland on the following Tuesday morning. It has not been stated definitely if the airmen will bring with them the aeroplane in which they made their flight.
