LEADER AT HASTINGS. SPLENDID RECEPTIONPer Press Association. NAPIER. April 7. A speech of great foroefulness, -A quite his best vein, was delivered ny Kt. Hon J. G: Coates to an audience of Reform supporters at Hastings this evening. . , , .. Mr Coates said that he, personally, and his party were determined to refrain from active campaigning against the Premier while the latter was incapacitated through illness, and did not intend to take any advantage that might savour of bad sportsmanship. Air Coates went on to criticise Labour’s actions and policy, and said that Labour was entirely responsible for the present unsatisfactory condition . of politics. They had voted against their own principles, and now had got into difficulties from which they would not find it easy to extricate themselves. . , , Mr Coates outlined Reform’s land and taxation policy, criticised Labour s actions and policy with particular reference to nationalisation and socialism, and condemned the United Party’s railway policy. Mr Coates made a fine and comprehensive speech, and was given ft splendid reception.
VISIT TO AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, April 7. Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and Mrs Coates will arrive at Auckland from Hastings on Wednesday morning. Mr Coates will probably be in Auckland until Thursday, when he will leave for North Auckland. Air Coates will return to Auckland on Saturday, and will perform the official opening of the drive giving access to Owairaka Park, Mount Albert, that afternoon. CANTERBURY ORGANISER. CHRISTCHURCH, April 7. • Mr C. L. Hardie has been appointed organiser in Canterbury for the Reform Party. Mr Hardie is a son of Air C. D. Hardie, librarian of Canterbury and formerly an inspector of schools,
