OBITUARY.
MR WILLIAM HENRY MORRIS. Mr William Henry Morris, Vhose death occurred on Sunday at the age of 70 years, had lived for five years in Palmerston North. He was bom on the West Coast of the South Island, entering the service of the Post and Telegraph Department at an early age. He retired on superannuation shortly before the war, being best known for his services with the department in Auckland, Hamilton and Rotorua. Mr Moms returned to the service for a period during the war, when there was a shortage of labour, retiring almost immediately after the war ended. A well-educated man, Air Morris had a taste for letters, and up to the time of his death he contributed articles on working conditions, and poetry, to the Press. He had , a good knowledge of mathematics and also made a study of shorthand. It was one of his pleasures to report verbatim sermons at church, where he was a frequent attender, and later translate his shorthand notes and study them at his leisure. Those who have been closely associated with the late Air Morris during his stay in Palmerston- North speak in terms of admiration *of his upright character, and describe him as a Christian- gentleman. He neither smoked nor drank and lived a strict Christian life, denying himself Everything and devoting as much money as he. could spare to the comfort of his wife, son and daughter, who live in Ponsonby, Auckland.
