BODY IN WATER.
WELLINGTON, April 5. Lying half submerged in the ebbing tide in one of the less frequented bays of the harbour near Muritai, the naked body of an elderly man was found yesterday by Mr Ambrose Kelly, of Eastbourne. The body was identified later in the afternoon as that of John George Hardie, who lived at 101 Tinakori Road. Mr Kelly was taking advantage of a day off to indulge in some rabbit shooting in yesterday’s perfect weather. It was while walking down the beach that ho noticed the body in the sea, and on going to investigate, he found that it was completely unclothed. Some time afterwards, the dead man’s clothes were found carefullv placed together on a rock above high water mark. It assumed that Mr Hardie went in for a bathe, the beach being entirely deserted on most week-days. It is supposed that he got into difficulties after entefing the water.
