FIRE IN GEELONG.

WORK OF SAFEBREAKERS. Received March 24, 10 a.m. MELBOURNE, March 23. The Margett Motor Company’s premises in Geelong were destroyed by fire last night. It was the biggest blaze the people of Geelong have witnessed in 15 years. Forty-four motor cars and three trucks were destroyed. The damage is estimated at between £16,000 and £17,000. Passers-by heard an explosion, then two men ran to a moving car, which dashed away. The fire broke out immediately afterwards. It was later discovered that the sales room safe had been blown open. The safe contained only receipts, but another safe, which was not touched, held valuable documents and money.
