(From Our Own Correspondent.) MARTON, March 21. Mrs W. G. Doyle has returned to Marton from a visit to her sister, Mrs Ben Seville, Christchurch. Mrs T. C. Jones, of Wanganui, is tho guest of Mrs Stuart, Marton. Mrs D. Ncaglo has been re-elect-ed captain of tho Taihape Ladies’' Golf Club and Mrs J. T. Thompson, secretary. Miss B. Cleaver is a Taihape visitor to Wellington. Mr A. Burbush, of tho Morton P. and T. staff, has been transferred to Wanganui. Mrs W. H. Fookes is a Tailiapo visitor to Auckland. Mr and Mrs E. P. Duncan, of Taihapo, are spending a short holiday in Wellington. Mr A. McGlashan is a Napier visitor to Taihapo for the Moawliango dog trials. Mr Percy Sherman, of Raratonga, has been visiting Mr and Mrs P. H. Hall, of Marton, who formerly resided in tho islands. Mr and Mrs G. Mcßae, of Huntcrville, are about to take up their residence in Mauricevillc. Mr Sims, of Wanganui, is tho guest of Mrs J. M. Abel, Huntervillo. Mr H. Tucker, of Wellington, is tho guest of Mr and Mrs J. Follas, Huntervillo. Mr and Mrs A. Kilmister, of Ongo Road, Huntorville, are leaving in May on a tour of America, Britain and Europe. Mr Alexander Millar, son of Mr and Mrs A. Millar, of Huntervillo, has for the second year in succession won the Coutts Cup of tho Taihape Swimming Club. The personnel of the Taihapo Fire Board has been completed and is as follows: — Messrs N. C. Barstow and G. R. Gramond (firo insurance companies), 11. Dashwood (Government representative), L. B. H. do Latour and H. C. Christensen (representing tho Borough Council). The Rangatira Golf Club (Silvcrhope and Hunterville) at a meeting this weok made arrangements for the opening of tho season on April 12. The club is to affiliuto with the New Zealand Golf Association. Mr L. D. Drummond is to be asked to reconsider his decision to resign from tho captaincy of the club. Excellent progress has been made with the campaign for funds for the obstetrical endowment in the Marton district, according to a report submitted to a meeting of the local executive yesterday. Innes scored 47 and Hobbs 56, Orton taking four wickets for nine runs. Harris for the winner of the TOOyds open championship was won by Joan Rickman, and a points prize presented by the Parents’ Association waa won by Carol Sladden. Tho Hunterville Chamber of Commerce at a meeting on Wednesday received with regret tho resignation of Mr G. Mcßae, its secretary, who is leaving the district. A sale conducted by the ladies of the Hunterville Anglican Church realised over £24 profit. The Taihape obstetrical fund committee has raised £125 towards tho Dominion fund. The quota aimed at was £ls less. Tho Marton D.H. School annual swimming sports were held yesterday. The pupils demonstrated that they have inado considerable progress since instruction in swimming was introduced. Tho 100yds primary boys’ championship was won by C. Hamer, with D. Stent second and E. Neale third; tho 100yds secondary boys’ championship by C. Ellis with K. Connell second and A. Gorrio third; the 50yds secondary gills’ championship by B. Hunt, with F. Hunter second and M. Dales third.
