PUBLIC SCHOOL SPORTS
MEETING AT FEILDING. MANGAONOHO SCHOOL SUCCESSFUL. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, March 8. Kowhai Park, Feilding, to-day was the venue of the majority of the primary school children in the lower part of the Wanganui Education Board’s area, tho occasion being the tenth annual sports meeting of the Feilding and District Public Schools’ Amateur Athletic Association. Well over one thousand children were competing in the various events, and with the multi-coloured uniforms of the various schools the grounds presented an animated sight. The opportunity was taken by many of the parents who accompanied' their children to the sports to make it a picnic outing and the tree shaded park was thronged during the luncheon interval by groups of picnic parties. Throughout the whole morning the cheers and hurrahs of happy children could be heard above all eke, and it is evident that the boast of the association that the event is the main one of the year in the school children’s life is no idle one.
Under Mr E. H. Lange, the secretary of the association, and his able staff, the organisation and running of the sports had been arranged to perfection, absolutely no delay taking place in the getting off of the events and the recording of the winners. The trophies being competed for are the MeCorkindale Bose Bowl, the Guthrie Shield and the County Schools’ Shield, and although the programme of events for the latter trophy is not yet finished, Mnngaonolio school children have placed the awarding of it beyond all doubt by the lead they have established. although the present holders of the trophv, Kopane School, have put up a fighting effort to retain it. The indications at present are that Manchester Street School will be successful in retaining it 3 hold on at least one of the other two trophies which it now holds.
