AUSTRALIAN FLOODS

DELAY TO TRAIN SERVICES, PASSENGERS’ EXPERIENCES. SERIOUS ACCIDENTS AVERTED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). Received February 25, 10.5 a.m. PERTH, Feb. 25. The passengers by the Great Western express arrived at Kalgoorlie this morning after being delayed at Forrest for three days by floods and washaways. All insisted that it was a miracle no serious accident occurred. As the train was approaching Forrest on Wednesday, the passengers were awakened by a terrific jolt, but the guard applied the brakes and the train passed safely over the damaged rails. When daylight broke the water could be seen rushing over the section just passed, while ahead was a lake of water. On the eastern side of Forrest the lines are suspended four feet in the air, and the water between Forrest and Longana covers the lines to a depth of two feet, and will probably remain for months.
