A queen carnival has been suggested and this means of raising money is well worth keeping in view. A moeting of the management committee of the Otaki Football Club was held on Wednesday night. Mr J. McGill presided. It was resolved to add Mr W. G. Hayward and another member from Te Horo to the committee. The matter of securing a playing area until the cricket season had ended was discussed and it was decided to ask Mr F. J, Ryder to allow the club the use of ono of his paddocks. Several outside teams are to be invited to visit Otaki- for practice games. It was resolved to offer a game to Potone, at Petonc, on April 5. An earthquake, of a slight nature, was felt in Otaki and district at an early hour yesterday morning. For some time past many have considered the Establishment of a high school in this district* advisable, and last night a meeting of representatives from the various schools from Otaki to Pukorua Bay was held at the Waikanae schoolhouse. Mr T. Brown presided. Mr Campbell (convenor) explained the object of the meeting. Mr Campbell stated that the idea of securing a high school had been mooted for some time, also that of securing a dental clinic. Ho found that there had been no chance of securing a clinic for Paekakariki, and sometimes whon trips were made to a clinic it was found that the nurse was away. Mr Campbell considered it advisable to have a clinic in the district. On the question of a high school, he stated that travelling was very inconvenient. Mr Nicolsen (Otaki) pointed out the inconvenience of children travelling and stated that Otaki was in favour of au improvement, especially desiring a high school. Dr. Milno (Otaki) said he had discussed the matter of the high school with the board and hopes of such were held out. Forms had been given him for the purpose of socuring signatures and when sufficient hnd been obtained they could be sent to the board and the matter would then receive attention. Dr. Milne said he saw no difficulty in securing a school; the main trouble was transport, Mr Barlow had stated to him that it might bo possible to havo the Napier mail train stopped for the convenience of children in this district. Mr Meyer (Rikiorangi) stated that there would be no difficulty in getting the 6chool but at the same time they should apply for a dental clinic. It was advisable, he considered, for the school to bo central and favoured Waikanae rather than Otaki, considering a school would bo of very little advantage if situated at the northern end. After further discussion it was decided that committees elect delegates and get necessary information, and that a further meeting be held at Waikanae.
